Researching your Great War Ancestors

The First World War

The Great War, 1914-1918, has been described as the war that destroyed a generation, and certainly it was a watershed in world history.

Almost every family in Britain was affected by the First World War: nearly everyone had a father, son, brother, or uncle who served, and of course many of them died. Today, interest in the Great War is at a high, as we reach the 90th anniversaries of the Battles of the Somme and Passchendaele. Although we are several generations on, it is still true that in almost every family history there are stories behind the men who served waiting to be told.

Layesbrook Research offers a service dedicated to researching the histories of those who fought in the Army in the Great War. Because we concentrate wholly on this period of history, and only on soldiers, this means we are focussed on the relevant sources and documents that will shed light on what your ancestor did during the Great War.
